Cameron

When Cameron was found, he was frail, dehydrated, and struggling to survive. With round-the-clock care and medical support, he’s already made incredible progress. Cameron’s personality is finally starting to emerge with his foster mama, now that he’s warm, safe, and receiving the care he’s always deserved. He’s gentle, curious, and soaking in every bit of love. Cameron is a reminder of how quickly a life can change with compassion and proper care.

Leo

When we found Leo, he was alone, injured, and on the brink of death - he hadn’t eaten in days. Thanks to the support of our community, he received the extensive care he needed, including jaw surgery and months of rehabilitation. We’re making tiny steps forward every day as he slowly learns to trust again and after 174 days, Chris finally pet Leo. Leo’s journey is proof that fostering and rescue don’t just change lives - they save them.

Enzo

This sweet black stray has been struggling on the streets with a painful, worsening wound. After months of searching, we finally found him again. With the help of our experienced trapper, we successfully trapped Enzo and rushed him straight to our vet, where he underwent surgery to close his wound. Today, Enzo is safe and healing with his foster mom, slowly learning what it means to be indoors and cared for. His journey is proof that compassion can change a life.

August Cats

August was an incredibly busy month for us. We managed to save multiple cats and kittens and get every single one of them fully vetted. We currently have an ongoing campaign to support their care, as all of these animals are now in foster homes and in the process of being adopted.

Saving one animal won’t change the world... but it will change the world for that one animal.

Cat injured

With your help, Leo got a second chance

Leo was found alone, severely injured, and fighting for his life. When we first saw him, he was frail, terrified, and had not eaten in days. His jaw was broken, his body was weak, and he was slipping away. We didn’t know if he would survive - but we knew we had to try.

With the help of our community, Leo received immediate veterinary care, including life saving jaw surgery and months of rehabilitation. His recovery has been slow, delicate, and filled with small victories. Every tiny step - eating on his own, lifting his head, allowing gentle touch - has been a reminder of just how resilient he is.

Leo is still learning to trust again. His trauma runs deep, but so does his strength. Today, he is safe, warm, and surrounded by love - something he likely never experienced before we found him. We continue to work with him every day, celebrating every moment of progress, no matter how small.

Leo’s journey is why we do this work. His story proves that rescue isn’t just about saving animals - it’s about giving them a chance at life, healing, and hope. And for Leo, that chance has made all the difference.

Applying To Adopt

1. Why Adopt?

Adopting saves lives - it’s that simple. Every animal in our care has a story, a past, and a chance at a brighter future because someone chose to open their home. When you adopt, you’re not just giving an animal a place to live; you’re giving them safety, love, stability, and the chance to finally heal. By adopting, you also create space for us to rescue another animal in need. It’s a powerful ripple effect - one adoption changes more than one life.

2. What to Expect From the Adoption Process

Our adoption process is designed to ensure the best match between you and the animal. Once you submit an application, our team reviews it carefully, considering lifestyle, environment, and experience. We may follow up with questions, schedule a call, or arrange a meet & greet with the animal. Our goal isn’t to make it difficult - it’s to make it right. We want every animal to go to a home where they can thrive, and every adopter to feel supported and prepared.

3. What We Look For in an Adopter

We’re not searching for “perfect” homes - we’re searching for committed ones. We look for adopters who are patient, responsible, and ready to love an animal for the rest of their life. This means providing proper vet care, giving them the time they need to adjust, keeping them indoors and safe, and understanding that many rescue animals come with trauma or special needs. A great adopter is someone willing to learn, ask questions, and show compassion every step of the way.

Our Story

Our greatest loss became our greatest purpose.

Chris and Tatyana met in 2015. At the time, life was simple - just the two of them and Chris’s loyal Golden Labrador, Simba. For years, it was always the three of them. Every road trip, every quiet morning, every season of life… Simba was there. He was family - a soul who embodied love, loyalty, and resilience.

In 2022, after the loss of Tatyana’s father, Chris and Tatyana traveled to a tiny town in Calabria, Italy, where Chris had spent his summers growing up at his grandparents’ home. They had no idea that this trip would change everything.

One of the first stops was visiting his grandparents’ grave. They placed four small rocks on his grandmother’s tombstone - three light and one dark - a tradition of remembrance. They also visited his grandparents’ old home, where Chris shared stories about how his grandmother, Giovanna, would feed the neighborhood’s stray cats.

The next morning, Chris went into town to grab a coffee and discovered a tiny kitten standing alone in the middle of the road. They named him Rambo. Soon after, they found his brother, Rizzo, and their blind sister, Rosie - and just like that, the couple who had always dreamed of helping animals in a bigger way stepped into their very first rescue mission.

Ten days after returning home to Canada, another cat crossed their path - Leica. Their little family grew again. Their home was filled with life, healing, and the gentle chaos of their four little rocks (three light and one dark).

But in September 2023, their world shifted once more. Simba was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma - an aggressive, silent cancer. For 14 years, Simba had been their constant and losing him felt unimaginable. Yet even in his final months, his spirit remained unbreakable. Chris and Tatyana poured their hearts into creating gourmet meals, researching treatments, and documenting his journey to raise awareness. Simba’s courage touched millions. He became a symbol of hope, inspiring people everywhere to cherish their pets and advocate for their well-being.

Simba peacefully passed away on September 6th, 2023.

Within days, still deep in grief, Chris and Tatyana found themselves back on a plane to Italy, returning to the same town where they had rescued Rambo, Rizzo, and Rosie. There, they saw a dog in a cage - the same dog they had noticed a year earlier. They vowed to each other that they would not leave Italy without saving him.

On the morning of the rescue, they asked Simba for a sign to know they were doing the right thing. On their way, they unexpectedly met a man who offered them a can of dog food. They accepted it and placed it in their car. After completing the rescue - freeing a dog who had been caged for over two years - they remembered the can. When they picked it up, they saw one word written on the label: Simba. It was the sign they needed. That dog became Ringo - a cherished part of their family.

Shortly after returning home, they rescued Lenny, who survived against the odds and became another beloved piece of their growing rescue family.

Months passed, and from their grief, their love, and the extraordinary ways Simba continued to guide them, The Simba Foundation was born.

Though Simba is no longer physically with them, his legacy is far from over. His spirit lives on in every animal they rescue, every life they touch, and every mission they undertake. The Simba Foundation was created from love, loss, and an unwavering commitment to making a difference. Through rescue, rehabilitation, and advocacy, Chris and Tatyana honor Simba’s memory by giving animals a second chance - just as they fought so hard to give him one.

Simba’s story didn’t end when he left. It became the beginning of something greater. And with your support, his mission continues - ensuring that no animal is ever left behind, unloved, or forgotten.
